Fluency Now allows you to connect to a number of different machine translation providers. This guide will help walk you through the signup process for IBM's Watson Language Translator service, which offers personal accounts of 1 million character translations per month absolutely free.
First, you’ll need to sign into the IBM Cloud services website. If you already have an account, you can sign in here.
If you don’t have an account yet, you can sign up for one here.
To create an IBM Cloud account, click the Get Started Free button.
Fill out the information fields, then click the Create Account button.
Once you’ve created your IBM Cloud account, you will be informed that you will receive a verification email.
To complete the signup process, check your email and click the Confirm Account button in the email from IBM Cloud.
Now that your account has been confirmed, click the Log In button to enter your IBM Cloud account.
When you’ve signed in, you’ll be asked to review IBM’s terms of service and privacy information. Once you’ve read through it, click the Proceed button (if you agree with their terms of use).
Once you reach your IBM Cloud dashboard, click the Create Resource button located in the upper right portion of the screen.
Type the word Translator into the search field at the top of the page, then select the Language Translator option that appears below.
Enter a service name for your MT subscription, then select the closest city/region to you in the drop-down list.
Scroll down until you see the available subscription options. By default it should be set to the Lite plan with 1 million character translations per month. If you’d like to use this free option, leave it set to the Lite plan then click the Create button.
Note: If you need more translations per month, select one of the pay plan levels that best fits your translation needs (Standard, Advanced, or Premium).
Finally, click the Manage button in the menu bar on the left of your account. This will bring up your API credentials.
If you’d like to view the key, click the Show Credentials like, otherwise use the copy buttons to copy and paste your API key and service URL into the Machine Translation Settings in Fluency Now.
